Wimbledon Ticket Ballot 2008

The date on which PGC Tennis Members are required to attend in order to be eligible for the ballot for Wimbledon 2008 show court tickets is

Tuesday 20 May 2008 from 8.30pm.

Please expect proceedings to last about 90 minutes and bring your chequebook as payment for and collection of tickets (if successful) will need to be made on the night.

We will be providing complimentary bread and cheese and other nibbles in the hope that tennis members will come to Social Tennis (between 6-8pm) and make it a fun social evening for all.

PGC Ladies - To decide the title?

On Monday 11 February Parsons Green Ladies play Teddington II in the Middlesex West Floodlit League in what appears to be a match to decide the title.

PGC have won all five of their seven matches to date (three by 16-0) but Teddington II have won 16-0 all three of their matches.

Avoiding defeat will give our team a very good chance of not only securing promotion but the Championship in their debut season in the floodlit league.

Best of luck ladies! Cheer them on from 6.30pm on Monday at home...

Wimbledon Ticket Ballot 2008

The committee has decided that for 2008 we will conclude all ballot formalities on one evening in May and take the opportunity to have a tennis/Wimbledon themed social evening as well (Pimms anyone?)

In order to encourage attendance we have decided that one person from each pair MUST attend on the evening in order to be eligible for the ballot. We will consider entries from those who cannot attend for exception reasons only (being busy doing something else or working late isn't acceptable) if notified in writing at least 72 hours in advance.

The date (most likely a Tuesday evening in early May) will be published at least 2 months in advance.

Many thanks
Andrew

Proposals for Wimbledon Ticket Allocation 2008

Last year I organised the Wimbledon Ticket ballot and it was a lot of work (made worse when I subsequently had to give up my Men's Semi-Final Tickets!)

This year I want to make a proposal which will massively reduce the administration and encourage tennis members to get together for a bit of a social. Here's the idea:-

The application to enter the ballot for tickets, the ballot itself, payment and ticket distribution will all take place one the same evening. Additionally I suggest that tickets in the first instance will only be allocated to members who are present!! Controversial I know but if the date is advertised well in advance (i.e. 6 weeks) to insist that at least one of any pair of members turns up is not too much to ask.

Anyway, there's a POLL on the right so please let us have your opinion!

Floodlit League Update - Jan08

Both the Men and the Ladies entered teams in the Middlesex LTA Floodlit League this year and both teams are well placed to gain promotion.

The Ladies have won all five of their matches so far and have just two games remaining scheduled for February.

The Men achieved their second 16-0 victory last night to go with a 0-16 defeat and are targeting second place with 4 games to play. Home matches are schedule for Thu31Jan and Thu6Mar starting about 6.30pm.

Middlesex LTA Summer Leagues

Dear All,

We have just submitted our applications forms team tennis to the Middlesex LTA.

As per previous years we will be entering two Ladies and two Men's teams in the Middlesex Slazenger League Summer (West) and one Ladies' and one Men's team in the Middlesex Cup 2008.

Men's tennis particularly needs a shot in the arm after the loss of several of our best players in 2007. The first team was out of its depth in Division 1 losing all 7 of its games and relegated in 8th (out of 8th place). The second team fared much better with closely fought second place and promotion to Division 4 in 2008.

The Ladies first team also was relegated from Division 2 losing 5 of their 7 games whilst the seconds were comfortable in Division 6 with a 5-3 record and 4th place.

We would like to encourage anyone who wants to represent the club particularly the Men to make themselves known to us by emailing parsonsgreentennis@gmail.com. We would also like to hold 1-2 sessions in March/April where any interested players can try out for the teams.

Tennis Section AGM - Tue 8 Jan 2008

The Tennis Section will be holding its AGM on:-

Tuesday 8 January 2008 at 8pm (after social tennis).

Please come along because this is a great opportunity to discuss the current state of tennis activity at Parsons Green Club and for you to tell us what events and changes you would like to see for 2008.

With 4 tennis members now directors of the Parsons Green Club Board, the tennis section has never been better represented and this is your club so use your voice!

We will also be awarding the trophies to the winners of the Summer Tournament who were:-

Ladies' Singles - Fiona McCartney
Ladies Doubles - Alison Sutton-Mattocks and Joy Heron
Men's Singles - Andrew Medhurst
Men's Doubles - Darrell Camm and Andrew Medhurst
Mixed Doubles - Alison Sutton-Mattocks and Andre How

It won't be a late night (if you play your cards right!) so hoping to see you on the 8th!
